SHILASDAIR IS GAELIC FOR FLAG IRIS A HISTORICAL HIGHLAND DYE PLANT
The inspiration for the colour range comes from the intense colour palette provided by a another nature source- the wild colours of Scotland and the Scottish Highlands.
Natural dyeing is an art, so we must be artful enough to evoke those colours with dyes that are not fugitive, besides what is gleaned locally the palette is built with tried and tested natural dyes sources – indigo, madder, logwood, lac cochineal, .Variations in proportions and the mordants selected do what nature has begun and gives the range of colours.
Shilasdair is committed not to just creating the most beautiful colourful yarn but using the best natural dyeing techniques without harming the environment
They use the best fleece , blended with a range of alpaca, silk, cashmere, and camel to produce a yarn worthy of the best designs.
